ORS of Tacoma is creating a new scholarship program called JEDI – Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion – for students who register for the June 2021 Concerto Festival. The new scholarship program will advance a key ORS goal: to create a future where BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) are an integral part of our work on and off stage.
To do this, we look to teachers to recommend student participants in the June Concerto Festival that would help us meet our goal. If you are a music teacher who has a student who plans to or has already registered for the Spring Concerto Festival, simply send an email to concerto@orstacoma.org with the name of the BIPOC student you would want to be considered for the JEDI Scholarship. If your students haven’t yet registered, they can do so until March 31 here on our website.
The scholarship would be given as a refund toward paid student fees for those registering through the deadline. We will provide ten (10) scholarship refunds of $100 each, awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Send us an email today about your eligible student!
ORS of Tacoma also offers the Benefactors Program to enable all students to earn credits for participation fees. Patterned after an online funding concept, families may receive support from extended family, neighbors and friends with donations that directly provide credit toward the cost of the student’s registration fee. For more information, please navigate to the Benefactors page here on our website.
We applaud the teachers of our community whose support ORS of Tacoma events by participating with your students! In partnership with you, we hope to create more opportunities for musicians of all ages to be able to take center stage.
